Targeted Marketing Using Cobot's Mailchimp Add-On

Cobot's integration with MailChimp allows you to link the two accounts so that:

  • Existing active space members are added to the list - called 'Audience' in Mailchimp - immediately.
  • New members are added as soon as they register with your space (if they opt in on the signup form).
  • Members stay in yout Mailchimp list until they unsubscribe themselves from the newsletter.

Note: If a member cancels, they will still receive Mailchimp newsletters from you until they unsubscribe from Mailchimp. If they change their email in Cobot, they will still receive emails at their old address as well until - you guessed it - unsubscribe from Mailchimp.


When your members are added to your MailChimp list from Cobot, it automatically brings in a few data points:

  • Email Address
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • Birthday
  • Plan

You can view this within MailChimp under Audience » All contacts » [Manage contacts].



This list will serve as the base for creating your targeted marketing lists. When a member changes their plan, it will automatically update in MailChimp and adjust the date changed field.

Now that you have a list of all past and present members of your space, how can you accomplish targeted marketing to specific groups of members?

MailChimp defines a targeted marketing list as a segment.

To define and save a segment, you can follow these simple steps:

1. Select Segments » Create a Segment



2. Select the sorting type (in this case, plan) and the value it should match (in this case, part-time)



3. Preview the segment to ensure it is including the correct information, then click Save as Segment.



4. Name the segment and make sure to keep the auto-update box selected.



Done! Now when you create your MailChimp email campaign, you can set it to send to your specific segment.


To create a date-based list, the steps are the same as above, except that in step 2, you will select the sorting mechanism of date before / date after. This will allow you to differentiate between long-time members and members who recently signed up (for auto-welcome emails, for example).
